The formation of the Nature Linux User Group was triggered by a question posed by a local business owner who runs M$ operating systems. I installed openSuSE 11.0 as a dual boot with their existing XP installation allowing Linux to identify the hardware missing from the XP configuration. As it took several hours to load, could be useful in future and there was plenty of HD available, I left it installed having repaired the XP side of the system. I suggested the client have a look at it, as they might find it a cheaper option than to upgrade to Vista when XP support is reduced.
The question in question was "If I switch to Linux, who would support it if you are not available?"
Follow up:
A good, valid question. Clearly there are a multitude of sites out there on "The Internets" that could provide answers, given enough search time, to all kinds of technical queries, but I think the question was more for when an issue of not booting or not being able to access the web is encountered.
One of the resources I have used in the past has been Linux User Groups. The nearest ones I can find are at the University of Florida, Gainesville, one in Tampa and one in Orlando. So why not start one in Cross City? We are in the middle of the Nature Coast of Florida, so why not Nature LUG.
Apart from the usual objectives associated with LUGs, that of promoting Linux, I would also wish to include support of external users especially businesses, who could provide financial support for the group.
Anyway, this and more can be discussed at the inaugural meeting, at a date to be set later.
